May is a Great Month for Nurses and Everything Nursing

As the title of this blog says, May is indeed a great month for nursing (every month is but I may be biased).  May is when we observe National Nurses Day, National Nurses Week, National Skilled Nursing Week, International Nurses Day to name a few. 2020 was designated the Year of the Nurse.  Nurses were honored again in 2021 as that designation was continued.  I hope that you and your community have big plans for these occasions this year. We can all use some celebrations!

I encourage you to reread 2 blogs I posted exactly 1 and 2 years ago this very day: National Nurses Week: May 6 – 12, 2021 and Celebrate All Nurses This Week and All Year!

Keeping with the theme of nursing, May 8 – 14, 2022 is National Skilled Care Nursing Week.

National Skilled Nursing Care Week® (NSNCW) recognizes the essential role of skilled nursing care centers in caring for America’s elderly and disabled. Established by the American Health Care Association (AHCA) in 1967, the week-long observance starts each year on Mother’s Day and is celebrated through the following Saturday.

“Skilled nursing care centers and their staff provide an incredible and steadfast commitment to a high-level of quality care and quality of life for their residents. This has never been more evident than these last two years during the pandemic. In addition to protecting and caring for their residents around the clock during a time of limited visitation and social distancing, staff stepped in and served as family members and friends to ensure residents had the essential social connections they needed.”

Thank you to all nurses, nursing homes, nurse aides, staff of nursing home for everything you do each day!  We’re proud of you!  You make the world a better place to live.
