Considering the AHEAD Model: Lessons from States on Hospital Global Budgets and Investing in Primary Care

Are you interested in learning more about current state experiences in exploring and implementing global hospital budgets? Have you heard about the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation’s (the Innovation Center) States Advancing All-Payer Health Equity Approaches and Development (AHEAD) Model, which includes hospital global budgets and investments in primary care? If so, please join this webinar to learn more.

The AHEAD Model is the Innovation Center’s new state total cost of care model featuring comprehensive payment and delivery system reform that will establish hospital global budgets and primary care investment targets, among other elements. Representatives from the Innovation Center will share more detail about the model’s hospital global budget and primary care investment goals and how they fit within the other core elements within the model.

As the AHEAD model requires states to implement hospital global budgets and make investments in primary care, this webinar will also highlight state experiences in these domains to date. State leaders will share goals for their health system transformation efforts and how they have either used or considered hospital global budgets to financially support hospitals while encouraging increased efficiency and improved health outcomes. They will highlight challenges and considerations for states, including engagement of stakeholders and balancing sustainable financing for the overall health system while striving to ensure high quality access for consumers.
