Following several major healthcare organizations expanding into advanced home-based care, Philadelphia-based Sena Health will help deliver the Salem Acute Care at Home for patients of Salem, New Jersey-based Salem Medical Center.

The hospital-at-home startup has the capacity to provide up to 23 hospital-level services at home for medical conditions that would typically require hospital stays as well as care coordinators that are available 24 hours per day, 365 days per year.

According to the announcement, the program combines expert care and advanced technology to deliver home-based patient care.

The first patient cared for through the program was seen in July.

"We cared for a patient with congestive heart failure in the comfort of her home, where otherwise she would have been admitted to the hospital," said Dr. Wamiq Sultan, chief medical officer of Salem Medical Center.

To enroll, patients must have been seen in an emergency department and evaluated. If they meet certain criteria to be safely cared for at home, they will receive two in-person nursing visits per day. They can connect with a dedicated clinical team, just as they would in a hospital.

Dr. John Frownfelter, chief medical officer at Jvion, told Healthcare IT News in December, "If we put patients first, then the setting becomes irrelevant."
