Dr. Jason Varghese Spotlight Article

Jason Varghese, MD, is a Board-Certified Family Medicine doctor who treats patients of all ages, from newborn babies to 90+ years old. He comes to Healthcare Associates of Texas with a wealth of knowledge and experience in Primary care and Urgent care.  Dr. Varghese is also a skilled educator as he served as Assistant Professor at the Medical College of Georgia where he taught medical students, medical residents, and fellow clinicians.

Dr. Jason Varghese started volunteering in hospitals and clinics when he was young. That experience showed him the vital role primary care providers play in helping people. It also fueled his passion for patient education. “Patient education helps me equip my patients with the tools that they need to help improve their overall health,” he explains.

Jason Varghese, M.D.Providing the best care starts with building a trusting relationship with his patients and understanding them as people. “I respect my patients and by just taking the time to listen,” he says. “I take each opportunity to listen to them which helps me better understand what their concerns are.  And I think by just taking the time to listen, it makes a better connection between the provider and the patient.”

Once he has established that relationship, he enjoys working with patients to meet their health goals. “I think helping my patients succeed in their health goals is the greatest satisfaction I have. The patients are so excited, and I’m so excited for them that they were able to meet their health goals by following the plans that we had set together for them.”

Dr. Varghese incorporates a lot of patient education into his practice. “I have a teaching background. I was a medical school assistant professor – teaching medical students, residents, and educators; I think it’s very important that we also educate our patients about their health and help them prevent illnesses before they become serious problems.”

“The biggest lesson I try to share is the importance of regular physicals and checkups,” he explains. “During routine physicals, we can catch a lot of things before they become a serious problem. Because a lot of medical conditions don’t really cause any issues until later on. When people come in for regular checkups, we can catch and treat conditions like sleep apnea, diabetes, or high blood pressure and help improve their overall health.”

When he’s not seeing patients, Dr. Varghese enjoys spending time with his wife, daughter, and son. He also loves traveling, singing, and playing the guitar.
