HIMSS23: 4 ways Microsoft Cloud for Healthcare partners are transforming the industry

Our Microsoft healthcare team returned from HIMSS23, excited by their conversations, the advances they saw first-hand, and much more. HIMSS23 covered topics such as digital health, cybersecurity, privacy, how interoperability drives better patient outcomes, and all things AI.

One thing very clear at HIMSS23 is the healthcare industry is undergoing major disruptions. Technological advancements and digital innovations are playing a growing role for healthcare organizations, accelerated by COVID-19, the rapidly evolving role of virtual care, and more. Microsoft Cloud for Healthcare, with a growing ecosystem of partners, is helping to change the game.

“Key topics discussed at HIMSS—including AI and automation, cybersecurity and patient experience—align perfectly with Cognizant’s capabilities and those of our hyperscaler partners like Microsoft. Migrating to Microsoft Healthcare Cloud can help healthcare providers achieve rapid adoption of technologies that could offer increased security and efficiency while improving the patient experience.”—Patricia Hunter-Dennehy, VP Healthcare Head of Provider, Cognizant.

Our partners deliver results for healthcare providers and payors

The Microsoft Partner Network plays an important role in delivering comprehensive solutions to our customers. At HIMSS23, we were pleased to have had 15 of our healthcare partners—independent software vendors (ISVs) and global systems integrators (GSIs) including three start-ups: Recuro Health, Anjuna Security, and Pangaea Data—join us in our booth to get some of the attention they all deserve.

“Being part of the Microsoft HIMSS23 booth elevated Recuro Health, a Pegasus partner, to a prime position at one of healthcare’s most important tradeshows – a position we would not have reached on our own. Microsoft has significant value and prominence as we navigate the road to success in our healthcare endeavors.”—Michael Gorton, Co-Founder and CEO, Recuro Health.

With the help of our partners, we showcased some of the latest ground-breaking experiences for Microsoft Cloud for Healthcare. These booth experiences demonstrated how Microsoft can empower healthcare organizations to deliver meaningful outcomes. The Microsoft Partner Network is here to help deliver results for healthcare organizations in four ways:

  1. Empower health team collaboration: Our partners are here to help support healthcare organizations with tools and technologies that enable care teams to collaborate and share knowledge in secure, connected environments. This helps to improve communication and coordination among care team members, leading to better patient outcomes and enhanced productivity. Partners such as Wipro and Teladoc are working with us to ensure that care teams are connected, and patients receive the right care at the right time.
  1. Support your healthcare workforceNuance was joined by partners, Efferent Health and Sophia Genetics to showcase their solutions that improve clinician experiences by using AI-powered ambient clinical intelligence, and virtual assistants to help support clinical documentation and administrative tasks. Reducing administrative burden can help lower clinician burnout and improve job satisfaction. Our partners shared how technology has a role to play to connect clinicians with the data they need and optimize time with their patients.
  1. Deliver exceptional patient and member experiences: Healthcare organizations are looking for more ways to connect with their patients. Our partners Avanade | AccentureAndor Health, and Cognizant | TriZetto are creating new ways to deliver exception patient and members experiences by providing tools that makes it easier to schedule appointments, manage home visits, and extend care beyond hospital walls.

“We were honored to be part of Microsoft’s HIMSS23 booth and grateful to have been an early partner to build on Microsoft’s advanced AI capabilities like ChatGPT. Leveraging ChatGPT, AI, ACS, and Microsoft Cloud for Healthcare, has empowered Andor Health to deliver an innovative approach to virtual health that is effective and efficient. Our AI-powered ThinkAndor® creates more effective virtual collaborations—enhancing patient and care team experiences by bringing forward relevant clinical content in context to enhance and accelerate better care. ThinkAndor® changes the nature of care delivery.”—Srini Surendranath, Chief Product and Strategy Officer, Andor Health.

  1. Improve clinical care and operational insightsCustomers are looking for solutions to help them take action with their data, realize saving faster, and achieve better outcomes across their business. Moving clinical, core administrative, and operational workloads to Azure provides the infrastructure, security, and agility customers need to create faster value and better experiences across their organization. Our system integrator partners, CDW/SiriusKyndryl, and OST can help your organization with your migration to Azure, and Wolters Kluwer and HCLTech, are delivering solutions to support payor and provider systems with the full power of the Microsoft Cloud.

“At HIMSS23 we showed how the power of Wolters Kluwer’s real-time clinical searched data from UpToDate® combined with Microsoft’s leading Power Apps, Power BI, and Azure, can equip Healthcare organizations to see clinical data insights to help identify emerging trends and knowledge gaps. With clinical insights, organizations can better target areas for strategic improvements in clinical program management, education initiatives and more, to drive ROI gains.”—Julie Frey, Director Product Strategy, Wolters Kluwer Health.

Another benefit of Microsoft Cloud for Healthcare is that it helps healthcare organizations adopt a virtual first approach to care delivery. COVID-19 highlighted the need for virtual care and remote monitoring, and Microsoft Cloud for Healthcare has helped healthcare organizations adopt new models of care such as value-based and hospital-at-home initiatives, as well as care innovations. Its AI capabilities have the potential to improve disease diagnosis, research, and clinical and operational insights in a way like never before.

“At HIMSS, Avanade showcased our Care 24/7 play, a set of virtual and digital transformation accelerators built specifically to help healthcare organizations meet today’s industry challenges by leveraging their investments in the Microsoft platform. Care 24/7 extends and personalizes our client’s Microsoft Cloud for Healthcare footprint to deliver better patient and clinician experiences, data driven insights, and provides a scalable and secure platform from which to continue to innovate and evolve in this digital age.”—Robert Hazelton, Global Healthcare and Life Sciences Lead, Accenture | Avanade.

AI set to drive big healthcare improvements

We saw considerable interest in Microsoft Cloud for Healthcare at HIMSS23. Healthcare professionals and technology providers are seeking innovative solutions to improve patient outcomes and reduce costs, and Microsoft Cloud for Healthcare is seen as a major driver of this transformation. Microsoft’s growing ecosystem of partners builds and extends the robust capabilities of this industry cloud, and its technologies make it easy to adapt and grow specific to each healthcare organization’s need.

Some of those improvements will be built on our AI solutions. We’re a market leader in delivering effective AI to customers. Our AI-powered solutions can assist and ease workflow strains by allowing clinicians to be more efficient—reducing burnout and increasing patient satisfaction. Additionally, it can improve healthcare outcomes by leveraging predictive analytics and identifying high-risk patients.

Furthermore, Microsoft Cloud for Healthcare is helping to connect consumers to their appropriate healthcare providers, especially those in underserved and rural communities. COVID-19 exposed many of the existing disparities in healthcare, and Microsoft Cloud for Healthcare is helping to address these disparities by providing access to healthcare services in a simple, convenient, and on-demand way.

During HIMSS23, Microsoft and HITRUST announced the Microsoft Global Healthcare Compliance Scale Program to streamline information privacy and security compliance for healthcare partners and customers worldwide. The successful pilot of the program relating to HIPAA that key United States-based partners and customers were part of, cleared the path to expand the program, globally. The program will roll out next in Canada for Ontario PHIPA, and GDPR in Europe.

“Any opportunity for requirement-level inheritance is a major benefit to us. The HIPAA Compliance Insights Report clarifies requirements that are already met by Teladoc Health, Microsoft or other partners. This can be especially helpful when doing business across multiple countries.” —Tim Wright, VP Strategic partnerships, Teladoc Health.
