Finish Strong: Ways to End the Year on a High Note

By |Published On: December 27th, 2022|

As a small business, we at GoMo Health understand the value of closing out the year strong! We’ve compiled a list of tips that can help guide the process and ideas to take it up a notch for you and your team this year and beyond!

Wrap Up Your To-Do List

We can all be guilty of procrastination, especially at the end of the year when our thoughts are preoccupied by the whirlwind of the holidays. That is all the more reason to make sure your work and projects are wrapped up as best as can be, just like the perfect present! Procrastinating can lead to worsening feelings of stress and anxiety. Don’t let a pile of work interfere with your mental wellbeing this season. Core to our GoMo Health programs are our evidence-based motivation and activation techniques to engage people in their daily life. One of these is activation through simplifying, which when applied to work projects, can transform productivity.

One of our top tips is to make a list or a schedule of pending projects with their deadlines and chip away at them one-by-one. Even if it is a task you are dreading, starting with just 10 minutes a day will make it seem more manageable. “New year” you will thank “last year” you for the foresight.

Check-in with Your Team

Where would your business be without your employees? The end of the year is a great time to check in with your teams and colleagues. Review sessions with your employees are beneficial for both you and your team. While giving individual feedback to your employees, always allow for feedback from them as well, and make sure you are creating a space where they feel safe to do so. Together, you can create a joint game plan for the upcoming year.

Along with the feedback sessions, don’t forget year-end compensation or a thoughtful gift – even time off to relax and recharge – to show appreciation for your team!

Set Goals and Objectives

Finally, it’s time to focus on your goals for the following year. Of course, every business wants to maintain and ideally increase profits, but there’s most likely much more to your business than just that. Focus on your leadership and team members. They have skills that can be honed and built upon. How can you help them be the best they can be? The happier and more capable your team is, the better it reflects on you and your business.

Company Culture

Additionally, think beyond the bottom line to how you can prioritize and improve your company culture. Employees that feel engaged and inspired at work are more productive, so finding ways to boost employee engagement and loyalty is key to growing a successful company (especially for start-ups!). Most importantly, make it a goal for you and your team to enter the new year rested and rejuvenated! We owe it to ourselves to start fresh on January 1st.

Of course, this is only the beginning; the end of the year looks different for everyone, but we encourage you to take some time to focus on these categories and set yourself and your employees up for success in 2023.
