October is National Depression Awareness Month

Each year, October is recognized as Depression Awareness Month to increase understanding and provide education about depression and other mental health issues and their impact.

According to the NIH – National Institutes on Aging:    “Depression in older adults may be difficult to recognize because older people may have different symptoms than younger people. For some older adults with depression, sadness is not their main symptom. They could instead be feeling more of a numbness or a lack of interest in activities.”

Depression affects mood and the ability to function in daily life and activities,  so it is important to raise awareness with and educate residents and family members about depression.

Briggs Understanding Depression Patient Education guide will help you provide important information about depression.   Large print and simplified language enhance readability and comprehension.
