The afternoon of October 24, 2022, CMS posted these updates to the LTC Survey Process:

The Revision History for LTC Survey Process Documents and Files provides some additional information:

There are indeed a lot of significant updates!  One example is that 20 (half) of the Critical Element Pathways have been updated and a new CEP added – that of Binding Arbitration Agreements.

Note also that the CMS-802 Matrix for Providers has been update:

#21 – PTSD/Trauma has been added to the Matrix. Also, a change in the lookback for Falls:

Previously (in the 11/20 version of the CMS-802), Falls had a 90-day lookback period.

The final version of the updated Appendix PP is also available – all 861 pages.  The guidelines in Appendix PP were implemented/effective on Monday, October 24, 2022 as well. You can also find just Appendix PP here

I encourage you to not just “file away” these updates.  Take a good look at the contents so you’re prepared for your upcoming surveys.

[Subscribers to Briggs Survey Guide – Interpretive Guidelines for Long-Term Care (Product #1766) and Survey Guide – Interpretive Guidelines for Long-Term Care – eManual (Product #1766E) will receive this update in early November.]
