Latest CDC, CMS and NHSN Nursing Home COVID-19 Data

CMS posted the latest nursing home data for the week ending April 30, 2023.

Comparing the April 30, 2023 data to the April 23, 2023 data shows these changes:

  • Resident primary vaccination completion rate decreased 0.1% again this past week;
  • Residents up to date with vaccines decreased 0.1% this past week;
  • Staff primary vaccination completion rate decreased 0.1% this past week;
  • Staff up to date remained unchanged this past week;
  • An additional 4,643 resident cases were confirmed this past week;
  • 113 resident deaths were reported this past week;
  • An additional 3,359 staff cases were confirmed during this past week and
  • 7 additional staff deaths were reported this past week.

Be sure to review your facility’s vaccination rates on the list of every nursing home with recent resident and staff vaccination rates and other pertinent data as this data will be used for completing the COVID-19 Matrix during survey. State surveyors look at this data in preparation for your survey. You’ll also need to know your current rate (as reported to NHSN) and provide it to the survey team entering your facility. This data is current as of the week ending April 30, 2023.

The end of the PHE took place at 11:59pm on Thursday, May 11, 2023.

As of May 11, 2023, COVID-19 Community Levels (CCLs) and COVID-19 Community Transmission Levels are no longer calculatable; associated visualizations have been removed from COVID Data Tracker. The “COVID-19 Integrated County View” tab has been renamed “COVID-19 Vaccinations by County.” County-level hospitalization data will be available at COVID-19 Hospitalizations, Deaths, and Emergency visits by Geographic Area.

The last update to this page will be made on May 11, 2023. On June 15, 2023, this page will be removed from COVID Data Tracker, and a new page displaying updated vaccination data will be available. National and state level data will continue to be reported atCDC COVID Data Tracker: Vaccine Confidence and COVID VaxView.

As of May 11, 2023, COVID Data Tracker will display hospital admissions, deaths, and emergency department visits data as primary surveillance metrics for COVID-19.

As of May 11, 2023, test positivity data from COVID-19 Electronic Laboratory Reporting has been removed from COVID Data Tracker and archived at healthdata.gov. After May 11, the National Respiratory and Enteric Virus Surveillance System will become CDC’s new source for testing data.

As of May 11, 2023, COVID Data Tracker is no longer reporting aggregate cases and deaths, COVID-19 Community Levels, COVID-19 Community Transmission Levels, or COVID-19 Electronic Laboratory Reporting (CELR) data.

Aggregate case and death data will receive a final update and will be archived on June 1, 2023, to reconcile historical data through May 10, 2023.
