Reflections on 2022
As reflected in the compilation of articles below, 2022 was all about looking forward toward planning for the end of the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency (PHE) and considering lessons learned for future pandemic response and policies that should be continued into the future. This includes the extension of key American Rescue Plan Act provision through the Inflation Reduction Act and considerations related to telehealth. Top of mind for all states has been timing of and planning for the PHE unwind, which was the feature topic of this fall’s white paper “The End of the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency & the Effect on Health Insurance Coverage.” Looking longer term, states began to acclimate living with COVID-19 in an ongoing manner while planning for a future with initiatives that expand beyond the pandemic. We saw, for example, states taking on issues such as the behavioral health crisis and infant and maternal morbidity and mortality, that have only gotten worse through the pandemic.
