On December 23, 2022, CMS posted the draft Minimum Data Set (MDS) 3.0 Item Sets version v1.18.11.

CMS plans to release the final version of the MDS Item Sets in early 2023.  The MDS Item Sets v1.18.11 will be effective beginning October 1, 2023.

This is what you’ll see when you open the .zip file:

If you’re curious as to what’s changed in this upcoming version, check out the MDS 3.0 v1.18 Item Set Change History first.  Here’s that Table of Contents:

I know you’re especially curious about Section G.  Here what that page shows:

If you’re new to the MDS Item Set, the NC or Nursing Home Comprehensive is the “mother” of the MDS, meaning that Item Set has all of the Items available (with the exception of Section S which is required by certain states).  The other Item Sets are subsets that contain some of those items, depending on the reason for coding that particular MDS.

Keep following Briggs regarding this October 2023 MDS version.  We’re planning training webinars and development of the final MDS Item Sets as CMS provides the specifications and final versions – also the corresponding, updated RAI User’s Manual.

We’ve got you covered!
